PNM COVID Customer Relief Fund extended to March 2022

Unfortunately, a lot of customers have months of unpaid electric bills, many stemming from pandemic hardship. While you do have a responsibility to still pay past-due balance, we know there are many families still struggling to make ends and PNM wants to help you pay your past-due balance before you face a disconnection. Disconnection is not a position any customer ever wants to be in but the good news is there is a lot of money available through assistance programs that we can help you sort through and help get you caught back up again. In fact, the PNM COVID Customer Relief Fund, the most popular assistance program that was born shortly after the pandemic began, has now been extended to residential, small business, and nonprofit customers to March 2022.

How to apply for help

If you are facing a past-due balance on your PNM bill, it can be overwhelming to comb through the different assistance programs while trying to determine what programs you may be eligible for, especially if you have never needed help paying your bill before. PNM can help you with that. Apply easily online below by selecting the type of application you are submitting, answer a few questions, and we will do the rest. We will look at all available programs for you such as the PNM COVID Customer Relief Fund, the PNM Good Neighbor Fund, the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), the State of New Mexico Emergency Renters Assistance Program, and more. For some programs, you may need to provide proof of household income, identification, and your past-due PNM bill. In some cases, programs can be combined to maximize the amount of assistance applied to your bill. Additional Financial Assistance for Renters

Are you paying rent on a housing unit in New Mexico? The State of New Mexico Emergency Rental Assistance program is providing rent and utility-bill assistance (electric and gas) to New Mexico households who are experiencing financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Rental assistance can be used to help pay for unpaid, current, past due, as well as future rent and utilities. Apply for help from the Emergency Rental Assistance program today.

Help for customers who don't qualify for financial assistance

If you do not qualify for financial assistance, there is still help available to help you avoid disconnection. We can work with you to establish a flexible payment arrangement option to now pay over 12 months, so you do not have to worry about bringing your account current with just one payment. These programs give you a variety of rebates and instant discounts on several products that can help you save money on your energy bill. You may even qualify for free products as well. How to make payments

Our in-person payments centers are open again. You may also use one of your other convenient self-service options. Additionally, you can pay online at or by calling KUBRA EZ-PAY® payment services for PNM at 1-844-PNM-PYMT (844-766-7968). Please check your PNM bill for all available payment options.

Beware of scams

Please be on the lookout for scams. PNM is aware that scammers are reaching out to customers pretending to be PNM, claiming you are behind on your bill, and are scaring customers into thinking your power will be turned off within an hour unless you pay with a pre-paid gift card. PNM has a responsibility to notify customers about past due balances and does sometimes reach out to customers, but PNM would never ask customers to pay with a pre-paid gift card. PNM notifies customers of the balance, offers assistance programs, encourages customers to verify their balance on their own, and customers can pay using an option they feel most comfortable. Prepaid gift cards are never part of the conversation, and if they are, PNM encourages customers to hang-up and report the scam. Visit for more information.
